One of the most high-profile anti-corruption events in recent months took place in Latvia — the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) detained Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze in the morning.
According to LETA, the detention was carried out at the request of the prosecutor’s office as part of the so-called forestry industry case. The information about the detention was confirmed by Minister of Economy Viktors Valainis.
KNAB only stated that the bureau is providing support to the prosecutor’s office during the procedural actions. The agency has not yet provided more detailed comments.
The phones of Krauze and the former State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, the current head of the State Chancellery Raivis Kronbergs, were turned off throughout the day.
