The detective was assigned to the assaults unit in January 2015, police said. Since an internal audit of the Crimes Against Persons Investigative Bureau was launched July 13, all cases assigned to that detective have been placed under review, police said.
Some of the cases assigned to the detective had “no documented investigative follow-up,” police said in a statement. Those cases have been reassigned to other detectives.
Police didn’t say what kinds of cases the detective had been assigned, but the assaults unit investigates crimes including sexual assaults, injuries to elderly or disabled people and terroristic threats, according to the unit’s website.
The department’s investigative units have had similar problems in the past.
