The Savannah-Chatham County school board’s Audit Committee agreed Thursday to abandon the search for a full-time academic auditor and instead request bids from educational service providers for the academic program evaluation expertise the district wants.

The funds earmarked for the full-time academic auditor will be used to pay the company that provides the program evaluation services, said Marshall Withers, senior director of internal audit, who headed the search for the full-time position.

The service provider will report to Withers and will work with the board of education and the Division of Academic Affairs. The expected expenditure is $60,000 to $90,000, the same as for the full-time position. The former academic auditor left the district in July 2017 and Withers had…
