Cincinnati police capt. asks for probe into missing overtime records

A Cincinnati Police captain this week asked the city manager to open a criminal and administrative investigation into missing records concerning possible overtime abuse by other officers.

In a complaint filed with acting city manager Patrick Duhaney Wednesday, Capt. Jeff Butler wrote that “the lack of availability of the documents and inspection notes is a significant issue and places extensive liability on the Police Department and the City of Cincinnati.”

Butler had requested the additional documents in advance of a meeting with investigators from the Ohio state auditor’s office that took place Wednesday. The meet is part of an ongoing saga surrounding police overtime that has rocked city politics.

Earlier this year, state Auditor Dave Yost agreed to look into possible overtime abuse at CPD at the request of Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters.
