MURRAY — In the ongoing fight against people seeking to infiltrate computer systems, either in the name of causing major damage or just to see if it can be done, Murray State University’s Telecommunications Systems Management program is on the front line. 

In fact, two of the guest speakers for Tuesday’s Patterns of Distinction/Security Matters conference – which TSM hosts annually with Community Financial Services Bank  – were alumni of the program. They are now helping others protect themselves, as well as teaching how it should be done. 

“Truthfully, it makes me feel old,” said TSM’s director Dr. Michael Ramage with a laugh before describing his feelings of having two of his former students, Tyler Leet of Paducah and Lauren Proehl of Kansas City, be part of the speaking lineup. Leet directs risk and compliance services for regional communications giant Computer Services Inc., while Proehl is the lead information security engineer for CenturyLink Corporate Defense, which employees 60,000-plus people. “Seriously, though, it’s great seeing TSM graduates in positions of leadership like this.
