2023 marks 20 years of October being celebrated as a Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Since its inception by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), this global event has grown exponentially to raise awareness and participation by individuals and organisations to beef up cybersecurity. This year, the theme for Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2023 in the US is “It’s easy to stay safe online,” a reminder to the internet users that there are many simple ways to keep personal data secure when using the internet.
In particular, the US national cybersecurity awareness month, will focus on four key behaviours in users that are simple and actionable for both individuals and organisations, namely:
1. Enabling multi-factor authentication
2. Using strong passwords and a password manager
3. Updating software
4. Recognising and reporting phishing
