A GSU student is the first person in Louisiana to graduate in cybersecurity

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – A Grambling State University student is making history by becoming the first person in the state of Lousiana, to graduate in cybersecurity.

Alexis White is putting her degree in cybersecurity to good use. She’s on her way to an internship at the Clinton Global Initiative University which encourages students to take action on world issues, but it almost didn’t happen.

The day she was set to interview her grandmother became ill. Alexis almost canceled but decided against it so she could get the internship and surprise her grandma with the good news.

“So the next day she actually passed away. So I didn’t get a chance to tell her but she knew what I was doing, and so after that, I got the email saying that I had gotten the position, the cybersecurity position with governance, risk, and compliance. So just to say, I am so happy that I was able to get that position and to make my family proud,” said Alexis White, Cyber Security Major.

She’s also making Grambling proud. Her professor says it’s amazing that she graduated from the cybersecurity program within two years.
