That has become a more pressing question lately, as concerns have grown among users, regulators, and investors about the social-media company’s protection of user data. Even though the stock has rallied 20%, to $183, from its March low of $144, the issue isn’t likely to disappear.

Trillium Asset Management has asked Facebook’s board, which includes Marc Andreessen, Ken Chenault, Reed Hastings, Sheryl Sandberg, Peter Thiel, and co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerburg, to establish a risk-oversight board committee. In its April 17 letter to Facebook shareholders, Trillium urged investors to vote for shareholder proposal No. 4 in Facebook’s 2018 proxy statement. The proposal asks Facebook’s board to issue a report discussing the merits of establishing a risk-oversight board committee.
