Audit finds major deficiencies in Michigan’s Child Protective Services

DETROIT (WLUC) – In a report released on Thursday, the state Office of the Auditor General found major deficiencies in Michigan’s Child Protective Services (CPS), a branch of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

The audit’s main objective was to assess the efficiency of the MDHHS’s efforts on overseeing CPS investigation requirements, especially in relation to child abuse and/or neglect.

According to the report summary, the agency failed to launch and complete investigations within required time frames, and didn’t complete criminal history checks.
