With 774,600 sqf of data centre space currently under construction in America’s 10 top hosting destinations and a further 9.7 million sqf planned, this market is en route to both growth and social pressure.

Data centre operators are in 2019 facing mounting scrutiny over their climate change social responsibility and over their environmental footprint.

That is
according to Newmark Knight Frank (NKF)’s latest report “US Data Center Report
H1 2019”, which goes on to explain that climate change is one of the major five
trends in the data centre space.

NKF said customers
of multi-tenant data centres (MTDC) will also want to ensure their providers
meet environmental standards and work actively to reduce their carbon and water
footprints.

“At the same time, high summer temperatures and water scarcity in some locations mean that questions around long-term operational sustainability may arise more frequently. For policy reasons, PR and commercial risk management, operators need to plan for and actively manage their response to changes in the environment,” the think tank highlights in the report.
