Tightened security likely in Salvador, Brazil, July 2 for Bahia’s Independence Day celebrations; presidential candidates will attend events.

Officials will likely deploy additional security throughout downtown Salvador July 2 for the celebration of Bahia State’s Independence Day and several events associated with Brazil’s pre-election period. Street parades across the Historic Center of Salvador are likely throughout July 2; authorities are likely to close roads and divert traffic around the area.

Additionally, at least three presidential candidates plan to partake in events celebrating Bahia’s Independence Day in Salvador at the following locations and times:

  • Arena Fonte Nova: Presidential candidate Luis Inacio Lula da Silva will gather supporters from 10:30

  • Farol da Barra: President Jair Bolsonaro’s supporters will gather at Farol da Barra from 08:00 for a motorcycle rally to Parque dos Ventos from 09:00.

  • Largo da Lapinha: Presidential candidate Ciro Gomes’ supporters will march from Largo da Lapinha to Praca Thome de Souza from 07:00.
