No one is immune to cyber risk.

Whether it’s large businesses (think: Facebook and Target), municipalities (think: Lake City and Naples), or 43% of small businesses, risk of cyber-attack is real for all. And there are so many ways it can happen.

The first line of defense for any organization is to understand the most prevalent types of cyber-crimes. Consider the following tactics cyber-criminals employ to access your network, and how they could potentially affect your business.

Phishing

Hackers send mass emails from what appears to be a reputable source, often containing false links that can spread malicious software, allowing the hacker access to an individual’s computer to steal sensitive data like credit card and login information.

Malware

Short for “malicious software,” malware is one of the biggest threats because a harmful file or code is emailed directly to a victim’s inbox. When the user clicks on it, the file/code breaches their network.

Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attack
