Broker introduces cyber-attack insurance services

Dar es Salaam. An insurance brokerage firm, Howden Puri, expects to launch an insurance scheme on cyber security for organisations and individuals.

Tanzania will become the first country in Africa to access such a Howden Puri product, which is designed to offer protection against massive cyber breach and business interruption and loss of brand value.

Howden Puri CEO Umesh Puri told The Citizen on Tuesday:

“Tanzania should be proud. There is also a plan to extend the cyber security services to other East African countries like Kenya, Uganda Rwanda.”He said the firm was still negotiating with the Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority, ahead of the launch of the product.

“I acknowledge there might be some cyber products at the marketplace, but they are not offering services like the way we are proposing. The membership fee and other crucial information will be announced in the near future as well,” said Mr Puri. The firm’s global cyber head, Mr Shay Simkin, warned that the organisations were at high risk of being hacked due to an increasing number of cyber-attacks attributable to technology advancement.
