Cyber security means protecting computer systems and networks from theft, damage, attacks, and other forms of criminal activity. Robust cyber security is essential to organisations of all shapes and sizes, as it protects you from loss of revenue, reputational damage, and financial disruption.

The terms and definitions around cyber security can prove intense. The terms are often confusing, relying on mythologies, metaphors, and portmanteaus. Do you know, for example, the difference between denial of a service and a man in the middle attacks, between phishing and vishing, between malware and ransomware? Are you up to date on trojan horses, eavesdropping, and watering holes?

The jargon can prove a bit much. So, we thought we would highlight some of the most important cyber security terms, offer definitions of each term, and aim to simplify as much as possible.
