Cheshire East workers sacked after investigation into overtime and expense claims

Three Cheshire East workers have been sacked after an investigation into financial irregularities relating to expense and overtime claims and the use of council purchase cards.

Another two workers quit the authority before the internal audit investigation had uncovered losses of about £50,000.

The council has not revealed when the alleged incidents took place or when the staff members left, but all cases have been referred to the police for further investigation.

Principal auditor Michael Todd told Thursday’s meeting of the audit and governance committee: “During the year we undertook five investigations relating to financial irregularities. These related to expense and overtime claims and the use of purchase cards.
