City to outsource internal auditing services
A scathing report of Santa Fe city finances last fall by McHard Accounting Consulting LLC, an outside firm that found the city’s financial procedures riven with risks of fraud, waste and abuse, singled out the city’s internal auditor as particularly ineffective.
City councilors on Wednesday approved a measure to reshape that role — by not filling it.
Instead, the city will outsource internal auditing services for the next fiscal year, following the recommendation of the city Audit Committee, which will help evaluate firms. The city has budgeted for a total of six internal audits.
