A TasTAFE employee directed purchases for the public education provider to their family business.
An internal audit of TasTAFE’s conflict of interest procedures uncovered the undisclosed conflict after a year of investigation.
The Examiner is looking into the nine areas of governance audited in the report, which was released to the public on May 24.
The conflict of interest report showed a lack of understanding about the risks related to conflicts of interest.
“Actions taken by management to deal with some disclosed conflicts of interest were found not to be appropriate,” the report read.
The audit found there were inconsistent requirements for staff to disclose conflicts of interest.
Some declarations were made verbally and, as such, were not logged on central systems.
