The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) continues working towards the prevention of potential locust risks. Throughout November and December 2022, four national sessions on locust management were organised in Khujand, Bokhtar, Danghara, and Tursunzoda. The activities were held as part of the FAO Locust Programme in the Caucasus and Central Asia, with the support of the “Project for improvement of locust management (Phase 2)” in Central Asia, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The training sessions focused on locust monitoring and information management as well as on control techniques and pesticide risk reduction. They were conducted by the Master Trainers of the State Entity “Locust Control Expedition” (SE-LCE), Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan, to the benefit of 63 staff. Beforehand, the Master-Trainers had been trained on these topics during regional sessions organized by FAO in Uzbekistan in October 2022.
