KPMG appoints risk management chief after accounting scandals

KPMG has created a new position to oversee both its risk and legal operations in the UK, as the Big Four auditor grapples with a string of damaging accounting scandals and recent scrutiny from regulators over its resilience. 

The professional services firm said on Monday that it had appointed Mary O’Connor as chief risk officer for its UK arm, to “oversee the firm’s risk management framework, including quality and risk management and the legal function”.

Ms O’Connor, a dual-qualified US and UK lawyer who currently heads up client and business development at insurance broker Willis Towers Watson in London, will join the firm in August. She will also sit on its executive…
