Lagos State government has approved a Emergency Trust Fund as part of efforts to enhance emergency management and risk reduction in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, announced this groundbreaking decision during the 2024 annual staff retreat.
At the event, themed: “Promoting Sustainable Development through Disaster Risk Reduction,” Oke-Osanyintolu highlighted the shift from mere emergency response to a more proactive approach, emphasising prevention and risk reduction.
“If you look at what is happening about emergency and risk management, we are moving from what we call emergency response to emergency prevention and risk reduction.”
Oke-Osanyintolu noted that the fund aims to enhance the resilience of the 57 local councils in Lagos State through extensive training, the provision of emergency equipment, and capacity building for both public and private sectors.
He stressed the importance of safeguarding lives and property, stating, “your safety of life is paramount to the administration on board.”
