Local university, high school building cybersecurity programs

A local university and school district are amping up efforts to train students for the cybersecurity workforce.Miami University brought together experts in the industry on Monday, including representatives from Procter & Gamble, IBM, Eli Lilly and Fifth Third to discuss ways to get more young people interested in the cyber security workforce.”Every aspect of our lives, cybersecurity is important,” said Jim Kiper, chairman of the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at Miami University. “Here at the university, we are trying to study what kinds of things we should be doing to prepare our students to enter the workforce.”Joe Bazeley is the assistant vice president of security, compliance and risk management at Miami University.”Whether it’s your banking site, your mobile app, your Facebook account, your whatever, more and more of your stuff goes online, so we need to have more and more folks to make sure that we are being safe and secure while we’re doing all those things,” Bazeley said.He said there’s currently a gap in talent.Industry experts predict by 2021, 3 1/2 million jobs in cybersecurity will go unfilled.”We’re looking to build up a Cyber…
