Massachusetts State Police audit unit included in final state budget

The final version of the fiscal 2019 state budget, released by a conference committee Wednesday, will include reforms to the state police that were proposed by the Massachusetts House.

The final bill includes a new state police internal audit unit and the creation of a new commission to review state police hiring and promotion practices.

The reforms come after the state police have faced numerous scandals, including one that led to the arrest of multiple troopers who, prosecutors say, falsely reporting overtime shifts for which they never worked.
