MONTGOMERY — Maybrook Mayor Dennis Leahy wants the state to audit the Town of Montgomery’s finances.

Leahy told the Town Board he would be requesting the audit after he heard a report at last week’s board meeting from RBT CPAs. The board hired the accounting firm earlier this year to review the town’s internal controls over financial reporting.

On Monday, Leahy sent a formal, written request for an audit to state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office.

Among the things Leahy heard at Thursday’s meeting that prompted his action were that the town has $9 million in its unexpended fund balance, that there are negative fund balances in some capital projects, and that the town has 11 capital projects being…
