It’s Gary Sullivan’s favorite party trick.
He takes out his smartphone and pulls up his LinkedIn profile. And then Sullivan, a former Erie Insurance executive who leads the new F.W. Hirt-Erie Insurance Risk Management Program at Mercyhurst University, searches the number of insurance industry jobs listed during the past week.
When he spoke recently at a Mercyhurst open house, the answer was 201,000.
When he talked to a reporter last week, the answer was 233,000.
Whatever the number happens to be, Sullivan sees the insurance industry — and the even broader area of risk management — as being ripe with potential and a good match for a community that’s working to develop a leadership role in cyber security in the Erie Innovation District
Sullivan heads both the newly established bachelor’s degree program in risk management and the master’s degree program in cyber risk management at Mercyhurst.
