Navigating NIS 2: Mastering Compliance and Risk in a Fragmented Cybersecurity Landscape

The NIS 2 directive establishes a regulatory framework aimed at improving the level of cybersecurity across the EU. NIS 2 introduces obligations on in-scope businesses to implement minimum cybersecurity measures, which are coupled with specific responsibilities and liabilities for senior management of the relevant businesses that are subject to these obligations. NIS 2 applies to a large number of businesses operating in the EU, many of which have had no prior direct exposure to specific cybersecurity legislation (including businesses operating in market sectors such as digital infrastructure, digital services, ICT service management, manufacturing, health, energy, transport, banking- and financial services).

The deadline for Member States to implement the NIS 2 directive in domestic law was 17 October; however, the implementation landscape is fragmented with many Member States failing to adopt implementing legislation. This is creating challenges for organisations managing compliance and risk exposure.
