In the wake of a scathing report that branded the city of Santa Fe’s one-person Internal Audit Department as ineffective and incompetent, the city is moving forward with a plan to outsource all audit functions in the upcoming fiscal year.
The city Finance Committee endorsed a recommendation Monday by the advisory Audit Committee to hire an “external qualified auditing firm.”
“The Audit Committee interviewed two audit firms last month to gather information on scope of services, approach and cost,” Renée Martínez, deputy city manager, said in an email to The New Mexican. “If six audits are completed in [fiscal year 2018-19], the annual cost is in the range of $150,000.”
