SCA begin sewage treatment plant | News

CATAWISSA RR — Southern Columbia School District is nearing completion of all summer renovation projects will include the sewage treatment plant replacement expected to begin on Thursday.

The school board voted in March to award a contract for general plant improvements for Sikora Brothers and to Tra Electric for the electrical component in the project.

Replacement of the current system became a priority for the district in January 2017 after an evaluation of the plant showed an operating expectancy of two to five years. Much of the controls and pump components were original to the 1962 treatment plant and required replacement.

A major overhaul including the installation of new pumps, controls and holding tanks, and a new pavilion has been erected that will house the plant’s pumps and controls.

The board voted 8-0 to award Martin General Builders no more than $5,475 for a shot-put pit project. Facilities Committee Chairman Timothy Vought said he met with the shot put coach and learned the pit has issues to be addressed. It will be moved to a different location making it safer for…
