This collection brings together key government guidance on the security of connected places (also known as ‘smart cities’). If you buy or operate connected places technologies you can use this collection to help guide security decisions and processes related to the design, implementation and management of your connected place.

1.1 About the guidance

This is a comprehensive collection of key government guidance on the security of connected places. The guidance has been developed by a range of organisations, often in partnership with local authorities, and drawn together by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) with the collective aim of helping buyers of connected places technology have greater confidence in the security of these technologies.

As a starting point for the security of your connected place, you and your connected place supply chain should adhere to the requirements set out in PAS 185 and to the National Cyber Security Centre’s (NCSC) Connected Places Cyber Security Principles.
