Silvia graduated in Mathematics (MS Level) at the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’ in July 1999 with a thesis on Neural Network development and applications.

From 1999 to 2002 she worked on the extreme event theory and application of linear and non-linear models (as machine learning and Kalman filter) to different fields of research, as a researcher at the Physics department of the University of Roma ‘La Sapienza’.

From 2002 to 2005 as research fellowship position at the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), she worked on the development of a multi-channel algorithm using  MSG (Meteosat Second Generation) data to model the detection and nowcasting of convective system.

Since 2005, Silvia has worked at the Natural Risk Management Office of the Italian Civil Protection Department on the scientific and technical aspects related to the development and use of meteorological satellite data. During these years she has been the responsible for the collaboration between the Italian Civil Protection and Satellite Organizations (EUMETSAT, NASA, ESA, ASI), working on the scientific aspects focused on remote sensing of clouds, precipitation, and…
