Split River Valley board votes down audits into stolen funds | News

The River Valley School District board of directors last week voted down two motions (5-3), along geographic lines, to seek proposals for internal audit advisory services as well as a forensic accounting audit in light of the $736,126.91 stolen from the district in an October wire fraud attack.

During the meeting, board member Melanie Pantalone, from the Saltsburg side of the district, motioned to add two items to the meeting agenda.

The first item was to seek proposals for internal audit advisory services, which would assess the district’s internal controls over its finances as well as provide opinions/guidance on how to mitigate any risks or gaps. The second item was to seek proposals for forensic accounting audit services, which would investigate whether any fraud occurred in the River Valley business office.
