State auditors set up temporary offices in the City of Industry this week and began digging into the city’s finances for the second time in three years.

The new probe initiated by State Controller Betty T. Yee is expected to take several months, according to spokeswoman Taryn Kinney.

“This review will include a follow-up on how the city has addressed the deficiencies that were identified in the prior review, and an assessment of the adequacy of existing internal controls at the city,” Kinney said.

Industry is an eastern Los Angeles County city with about 200 residents and roughly 3,000 businesses. Those companies — largely manufacturers and wholesalers — generated $31 billion in sales in 2016, a number that surpasses the annual gross domestic product of 100 countries. Unlike…
