On Friday, Symantec lost a third of its market value as the stock suffered its worst day in over 17 years. Shares of Symantec were down 33% to end the day at $19.52. At one time during the day’s trading, shares were down to as low as $18.83, which are levels not experienced since June of 2016.
The company, which specializes in cybersecurity and makes the Norton anti-virus software, announced on Thursday that it has started its own internal audit as a response to concerns voiced by a former employee.
Symantec did not go into any detail about the internal audit, saying just that the investigation is not security related.
In a prepared statement, Symantec said that the investigation was in the early stages and that the company could not predict what its length or outcome would be.
