Cost of airport crash truck repairs goes up

Repair costs for a crash truck for Hagerstown Regional Airport have increased, not necessarily unexpectedly, after mechanics started disassembling the truck, a Washington County official said.

County officials knew the cost could go up because there were items that couldn’t be assessed until the truck was dismantled, Purchasing Director Rick Curry said earlier this month. The cost increased by $42,246.44.

However, the county saved more than $10,000 in negotiating the cost increase, Curry said.

The commissioners approved the original $59,371 repair contract with Emergency Vehicle Specialist Inc. of Hagerstown in May.

The work includes replacing the thermal imaging camera and turret.

Cyber insurance coverage increased for fire and rescue association

With the increasing number of cyberattacks in other communities, cyber liability insurance coverage is being increased for the Washington County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.
