Guam charter schools continue to face rifts in governance and funding given the concerns hashed out during a roundtable meeting Wednesday at the Guam Congress Building in Hagåtña.

Comments revealed the body still lacks clarity in its accountability, standards and structural procedures given charter schools’ use of public funding, but not being under the same scrutiny as Guam Department of Education schools.

Mark Mendiola, chairman of the Guam Education Board, brought attention to the gaps in the charter school law when it comes to GDOE’s oversight and suggested the Legislature take a “hard look” into the department’s involvement with the charter schools.
