Audit finds no wrongdoings in Trumbull library system

TRUMBULL — No red flags were found during an internal audit of the town’s library system, according to a new report.

The report does highlight a few areas for improvement though — including staffing and documentation — and gives some recommendations that would improve the library’s current cash handling policies.

“The policies that are in place in different departments over the years have changed,” said Lainie McHugh, chairman of the Board of Finance. “Some departments now take credit card payments that hadn’t before, so we want to make sure policies are being handled across the board the same way in each department so that there’s continuity and all employees have updated training.”

The Trumbull Library System is composed of both Trumbull Library and Fairchild-Nichols Memorial Library.

McHugh added that the purpose of the audit was not for any alarming irregularities or signs of wrongdoing, but rather to evaluate the library’s current cash handling policies and make recommendations for ways it can improve.
