County seeks community input on hazard identification, risk assessment program

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Kern County Fire Department is asking for community input on the Threats and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment program Kern County faces.

Kern County Fire Department Chief Brian Marshall talked about the program at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

It’s part of a new requirement for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, because the county receives Homeland Security grants that all go to first responder agencies, including fire, sheriff, and public health.

The money is intended to help those departments better meet threats posed to our country.

Those departments must complete the threat assessment program that involves five mission areas: Prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery.
