Cyber competitions helps small businesses

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – The Wyoming Cybersecurity Competition for Small Businesses is kicking off its 5th year.

“Any small business can register. The competition is truly designed for those that don’t have a lot of I.T. help on staff,” said Laura Baker, Executive Director, CyberWyoming.

They helped over 60 small businesses evaluate their security concerns and addressed them through the competition.

The competition is judged by national standards, and they were approved by the Wyoming state bar, for 35 continuous legal education credits, for attorneys.

The competition process starts with a survey; then, security goals are laid out and finally, a security analysis.

Monthly meetings help check progress on security goals, ending with a report that a panel of judges evaluates.

“Cybersecurity is truly a risk-management process. If you have just enough skills to lead the team, you will actually be very effective in data and security governance,” said Baker.

The winners get to speak at the Wyoming Cyber Security Conference at the University of Wyoming’s Hack-a-thon.
