Further violence is possible over the coming days after communal clashes left at least six people dead and at least three others wounded in Bawku, Upper East Region, Dec. 24. Banks in Bawku have been forced to close due to the fighting. As of Dec. 24, authorities are maintaining a 20:00-05:00 security curfew in Bawku due to regular communal tensions in the area.
A heightened security presence will likely remain in the area over the coming days. Officials could implement further movement restrictions in the impacted area if tensions do not abate.
