A resolution adding an internal audit committee to the current committee in charge of auditing was the main topic of discussion at Wednesday’s Hamilton County Commission meeting.

“We need an independent audit committee. Meaning that three residents of Hamilton County who ultimately everyone answers to would be sitting on this to provide guidance over site and reinforcements in areas such as brainstorming into areas of performing the audits for the internal audit department,” said Certified Public Accountant Amie Haun.

This has been approved by the state’s comptroller and these three volunteers would be required to have experience in this field. Commissioners are uncertain whether this extra layer of support is needed.

“Doesn’t hurt to have more eyes looking at it. That’s not a problem, but as far as I am concerned, we have the top-notch auditing committee in the state of Tennessee, probably the region already,” said District 11 Commissioner Joe Graham.
