NEMA Reports Rising Risk of Floods and Wildfires Across Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, July 4, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provided an update on the current
risks posed by floods and forest and steppe fires across Mongolia.

During the briefing, Head of
the Risk Management Division at NEMA Major Sh. Ankhtuya presented the national
flood risk assessment. According to the assessment, among the 21 aimags, three
aimags —
Orkhon,
Gobisumber, and Sukhbaatar
—are classified as high-risk
(orange level)
. Sixteen provinces are at medium
risk
, including Bayan-Ulgii, Uvs, Khovd, Zavkhan, Gobi-Altai,
Bayankhongor, Khuvsgul, Bulgan, Tuv, Uvurkhangai, Umnugobi, Dundgobi,
Darkhan-Uul, Selenge, Dornogobi, and Khentii, while
Dornod and Arkhangai
are considered
low-risk areas.

At the soum level, among the
330 soums nationwide, the breakdown is as follows:

  • Very
    high risk
    : 19 soums
  • High
    risk
    : 30 soums
  • Medium
    risk
    : 159 soums
  • Low
    risk
    : 94 soums
  • Very
    low risk
    : 28 soums

NEMA has estimated that 137,740
households in 49 soums
