On-site audits of three Columbus City Schools’ cafeterias found questionable examples of how perishable food was being stored at all three locations.
Although the inspections last school year found no evidence that food quality had been compromised, they did find “an absence of some necessary internal controls” that potentially could lead to health problems for students and others eating in those cafeterias.
The district’s internal auditors made spot inspections of three high school cafeterias — which the district did not identify — and found “inconsistent use of mechanisms and procedures that are used to ensure food quality,” according to a report delivered to the district’s Audit Committee this week.
