Greenville Housing Authority audit shows no fraud after CEO indictment

An internal audit of The Greenville Housing Authority’s financial activities showed no instances of fraud, the organization announced Oct. 17.

The audit was conducted following an indictment of former CEO Shawn Williams on charges related to her previous role with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (GDCA). 

“We wanted to make sure everything was in order from 2020 onwards,” said TGHA Board of Directors Chair Pete Byford. “We take our responsibility as a board seriously and we need to review our internal procedures.”

The Greenville Housing Authority helps provide affordable housing and workforce housing assistance. It is independent from the city, though the board is appointed by City Council under state law.

According to the DeKalb County, Georgia District Attorney’s Office, Williams and three others are accused of conspiring to steal more than $184,000 from GDCA through fraudulent contracts for cleaning and software development services between 2017 and 2019.
