A top engineering contractor for Metro government entertained city officials inside a company suite at Bridgestone Arena during multiple sporting events this year, and in several cases, the employees did not appear to pay for the tickets.
The outings came as Metro has more than tripled its yearly work payments to the vendor at issue, Collier Engineering, since 2010.
An new city audit ordered by Nashville Mayor David Briley on Metro’s relationship with Collier Engineering, released Friday, substantiates claims of “an appearance of preferential treatment” to a firm that has won $48.7 million in Metro contracts since 2010 for street paving, sidewalks and other work.
The same firm, The Tennessean reported this month, was paid to design and inspect sidewalks at nearly two dozen schools even though the Metro Council directed this money to be spent elsewhere.
