State auditors have returned their report on Hart County Clerk Lisa Hensley Sander’s 2017 financial statement.

The state auditors are required by law to conduct annual audits of the county clerks across the state, as well as sheriffs.

Only one finding was noted in the state auditors’ report and that was in regard to Sanders not having adequate internal controls over cash back transactions and daily checkout procedures.

The finding was a repeat from the previous year.

As a result of an internal audit, Sanders discovered thefts of cash from multiple customers and reported the findings to the Hart County Sheriff’s Office.

State auditors then discovered two findings when reviewing Sanders’ 2016 financial statement, one of which led to the arrest of Chelsea Trulock of Munfordville.

Trulock was a deputy clerk in Sanders’ office. She was arrested in September 2017 on a Hart County indictment warrant for theft by unlawful taking over $10,000 but under $100,000, and abuse of public trust over $10,000 but less than $100,000.
